One of Nepal's most popular short treks is the Langtang Valley Trek. Langtang Valley Walk is an easy and enjoyable trek located north of Kathmandu that gives spectacular views of the Langtang Himal range. The walk brings you to a picturesque valley bordered by the Langtang River and allows you to observe Tamang culture, making it an ideal holiday trek.
The Langtang Valley is full of magnificent vistas and interesting places to visit. The Langtang Valley hike, which begins after an 8-hour journey from Kathmandu to Sybrubensi, is a pleasant experience due to its secluded and unusual terrain. This trip takes you through deep pine and Rhododendron woods, across alpine pastures, and past a vast mix of flora and wildlife found inside the Langtang National Park. This walk is made much more appealing by the presence of picturesque communities and old monasteries
Itinerary
Kathmandu to SyabruBesi (1,460 m. / 4,790 ft.)
As the route leaves the Kathmandu Valley, it climbs high across slopes, providing spectacular views of the Annapurna Himalayas in the west, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and the Langtang region's peaks ahead. Before climbing to Dunche and the Langtang National Park, we drive through the lively town of Trisuli. It's another hour downhill from Dunche to Syabru Besi, where you'll spend the night.
Trek to Lama Hotel (2,470 m. / 8,103 ft.)
The trail today crosses the Bhote Kosi, or 'Tibet River,' which flows from Tibet. It then gradually climbs through sub-tropical forests to connect the Syabru Besi route, before ascending through uninhabited oak and rhododendron forests. In the woods, keep an eye out for langur monkeys. The climb up to Lama Hotel through the forest is strenuous, but the reward is a nice room in a charming lodge in the little village.
Trek to Mundu (3,550 m. / 11,646 ft.)
The trail continues to ascend through the forest, with glimpses of Langtang Lirung through the trees on occasion. The trail emerges from the forest at Ghora Tabela (3,000 m. / 9,842 ft.), and the mountains loom on both sides of the valley. There used to be a Tibetan resettlement project here, but it is now just a Nepal Army garrison with no permanent residents. The trail continues to ascend gradually as the valley widens, passing a few makeshift communities used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the summer meadows. If you haven't already, you'll most likely see your first yak. The next section of the walkway serves as a mournful reminder of the earthquake that occurred in 2015. There is now only a vast rock field where Langtang village once stood, with various lodges. Remember the Nepalis and tourists who perished here, and keep in mind that your visit will aid the surviving. Mundu is only about a half-hour walk away. The historic houses here are a reminder of how all the communities in this valley used to appear. The majority of the lodges and homes in this area are now constructed in a more contemporary style.
Trek to Kyangjin Gompa (3,800 m. / 12,467 ft.)
The trail gradually climbs from Mundu through yak pastures as the valley opens up and the vistas become more expansive. The trail arrives in Kyangjin after passing through several small streams and moraines. A small monastery and a government-run cheese factory can be found here, and it's a nice place to stock up on lunch and afternoon snacks. Because you will arrive by lunchtime, you will have time to relax or explore the neighborhood in the afternoon. If you're feeling really energetic, make your way up the Valley to Langshisha Kharka to take in some of the breathtaking views.
Rest day in Kyangjin or climb Kyangjin Ri (4,850 m. / 15,912 ft.)
You can relax or go exploring today. You can visit the monastery and cheese factory, stroll up the moraine to observe the Langtang Lirung's stunning ice faces and tumbling glaciers, or ascend Kyangjin Ri, which is just behind the settlement, for a breathtaking view of the Langtang peaks.
Day 6: Trek to Lama hotel
Retrace your steps up the valley from Kyangjin, following the Langtang Khola to Mundu hamlet and then on to Ghora Tabela. Certainly, the descent will be quicker than the rise. Continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel after lunch.
Trek to Syabru Besi
Retrace your steps back to Syabru Besi, taking in the tranquility of the forested hills. If you're feeling energetic, take the scenic road from Rimche to Syabru Besi through Sherpa Gaon; it'll take considerably longer to get to your final destination, but it'll be a beautiful detour.
